Creating a Website & Beyond
My journey with my new site has been an exciting one. It’s been incredibly productive and more profitable than expected. Let me share some lessons learned, struggles, personal growth, and other insights.
The Golden Ticket
The year began on a high note. I received a Golden Ticket and was invited to meet with Amazon regarding the Merch By Amazon (MBA) program. After signing NDAs, I can confidently say that I’m proud and excited about this passive income opportunity. They even designed a shirt for us! The team treated us to a wonderful dinner with delicious desserts, and we shared our thoughts on the program.
While I had some initial frustrations, talking to the team made me realize how hard they’re working to improve. One thing’s for sure – these people love their company. Amazon has high standards, and the Merch team is passionate and dedicated.
A Detour Ahead
Merch By Amazon took my business on a complete detour in late 2016. It presented a complete shift from my initial plans. I saw its potential and focused on it immediately. To date, I’ve sold nearly 10,000 shirts on Amazon, something I never thought would be a significant part of my income stream.
But this detour was a blessing in disguise because it prevented me from making a big mistake. I had planned to create a site about selling online courses from WordPress, but forcing myself into a niche I wasn’t passionate about wasn’t the right move. Thank you, Amazon, for rescuing me!
The PSP Journey Begins
When I launched Passive Shirt Profits in June 2017, I knew social media wouldn’t be a significant part of my marketing strategy. While this may seem unconventional today, it aligns with my preferences. Marketing has never been my forte – teaching, video creation, and online admiration don’t automatically make someone a great Internet marketer.
I decided to start podcasting, challenging the "Be Everywhere" mentality many newcomers feel pressured to follow. My goal was to podcast weekly to see if it would attract students. I launched my first show in May 2017.
Sales Take Off!
The initial launch of PSP was a huge success. Offering a bundle package at a lower price than the individual courses led to most people purchasing the bundle. In the first three days, I made more than I typically made on Udemy in a month (without Udemy discounts).
