I Made $5,000 in 12 Hours With a Small Audience

I just had my best course launch EVER, and with a much smaller audience than I have on this site.

About a month ago, I had a 4-day launch sale for a new course called POD Niche Site Success. In the first 12 hours, I generated $5,000 profit—more than I did for the entire launch of my first course with this site.

The reason I’m highlighting the initial $5,000 I made in the first 12 hours is that it was a significant goal for my first 2Create course launch, and I didn’t even come close.

Let me put these numbers into perspective:

  • When I launched my first course on this site in 2014, my list had around 30,000 subscribers. Many of these people were disengaged or not receiving my emails due to spam filters.
  • For my latest Passive Shirt Profits course launch, my list size was 1400. This newer, more engaged audience was niched down, meaning most people on the list had a strong interest in learning similar topics.

There’s often an emphasis on growing your email list, but what’s the point if those on the list want vastly different things? This site has always struggled with this because I covered many diverse topics over the years. By 2014, my audience wanted to learn everything from WordPress and starting a business to YouTube and affiliate marketing. Additionally, I didn’t take advantage of segmenting my email list back then.

So what else went wrong with my initial course launch?

  • I low-balled my products: I thought offering an affordable product with tons of content would attract more buyers, but it may have actually hurt me. Not only did it discourage marketing efforts (low profit margin), but it also attracted people who didn’t open the course because they perceived it as lacking value due to the low price.
  • I ignored what people REALLY needed: This was even more detrimental. I believe many first-time course creators make this mistake—focusing on teaching what we want to teach instead of listening to our audience’s actual needs and wants. In 2014, not many people were asking for an affiliate marketing course, but I chose that topic because it was where I had made most of my money at the time.

Looking back, it was a strange combination of courses for this particular audience. Once again, I prioritized what I wanted to teach instead of considering their interests.
